Manual vs electric chain hoists

A manual chain hoist is operated by pulling a hand chain and needs no power source, making it a straightforward choice for occasional lifts, outdoor sites or locations without electricity. An electric chain hoist lifts and lowers at the press of a button, better suited to frequent or heavy lifting where speed and staying clear of the load matter more than upfront cost. Standards and compliance

Manual chain hoists sold here are built to BS EN 13157, the harmonised standard covering manually powered lifting equipment, while electric chain hoists meet BS EN 14492-2, the standard for power driven chain hoists. All hoists carry CE marking confirming compliance with the relevant EU and UK machinery requirements. In UK workplaces, hoists also fall under LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations), which requires regular thorough examination, typically every 6 or 12 months depending on use, in addition to the manufacturer's stated working load limit (WLL) never being exceeded.
