Steel Clamps
Steel clamps are the heavy-duty alternative to aluminium hook clamps, used for hanging stage lights, speakers and rigging hardware from 48mm lighting bars and scaffold tube. Steel construction makes them more durable and resistant to damage than aluminium equivalents — a practical choice for permanent installations, high-use venues and applications where cost-efficiency matters over weight saving. This range also includes girder clamps for creating rigging points on structural steel I-beams and H-beams without drilling.

Types in this range
- Steel hook clamps — the workhorse of permanent theatre and venue installs; available in light duty, standard and heavy duty versions for 18mm to 75mm tube; more robust than aluminium and suited to high-cycle use
- Girder clamps (beam clamps) — attach directly to the flanges of structural steel I-beams and H-beams to create certified rigging points for hoists, chain motors and lighting rigs; no drilling required
- Big Ben clamp — a scaffold clamp with an integrated 28mm TV spigot, used to attach a lighting bar or T-bar to the top of a stand
- Supaclamp — a versatile steel clamp that mounts to 48mm tube and accepts a 16mm spigot pin for attaching grip arms, boom arms and accessories
- Barrel socket clamp — clamps to 48mm tube and provides a 28mm TV spigot receiver for pantographs and studio rail accessories
Steel vs aluminium — when to choose steel
- Permanent venue installs — steel clamps withstand repeated tightening and long-term use better than aluminium
- Budget-sensitive projects — steel hook clamps are typically lower cost than equivalent aluminium versions
- Girder and beam rigging — structural steel rigging points require rated steel beam clamps; aluminium clamps are not suitable for this application
What to look for
- SWL — check the rated load for your specific clamp and application; girder clamps are available from 1 to 5 tonne capacity
- Tube diameter — steel hook clamps cover a wide range from 18mm to 75mm; confirm the correct size for your bar
- Finish — zinc plated as standard for corrosion resistance; some models available in black
Safety note: Girder clamps must only be used for inline vertical lifting loads. Never use at an angle. Always verify the beam flange width is within the clamp's rated range before use.
