Nail/Staple Guns

Nail and staple guns for every trade and hobby application: cordless mini staplers for hobby work, professional 18V cordless combi nailer/staplers for site trim work, corded electric guns for continuous workshop use, pneumatic combi nailer/staplers for high-volume upholstery and joinery production, and specialist combi tools that fire both staples and brad nails from the same magazine. This is the collection for site chippies, drylining contractors, roofing crews, upholstery workshops, cable clippers, insulation installers, kitchen fitters and hobby users who need proper firing kit rather than doing everything with a hammer and hand tacker.

You will find cordless staple/nail guns across the full voltage range (4V hobby entry, 7.2V mini cordless, 12V mid-tier, 18V professional trade), corded electric staple guns for continuous mains-powered workshop use, pneumatic combi nailer/staplers for compressor-driven trade work, plus spare parts and consumables to keep existing tools running. Key features across the range: combi capability (many tools fire both staples and brad nails from the same magazine), tool-free depth adjustment, contact-safety triggers, and compatibility with the main staple systems in the collection (Rapid 13, Rapid 53, Rapid 140, Tacwise 53 and 140, Stanley TRA).

The brands here are the trade references in the segment: Tacwise (the British specialist with the widest range of cordless and corded models, plus the Ranger EL-Pro professional 18V), Rapid (the Swedish stapling specialist with the BTX cordless range, PRO electric and PBS pneumatic combi tools), Einhell (with the TE-CN 18 Li on Power X-Change), Batavia (with the MAXXPACK 18V stapler-nailer) and Stanley (with the 0-TRE550 electric Sharpshooter).

Nail guns, staple guns and combi fastening tools at MTN Shop UK

The right nail or staple gun turns a slow tedious job into a fast one. Whether you are fixing roofing felt to shed timbers, upholstering a chair, running cable clips down a stud wall, fixing plasterboard to noggins, tacking underlay for laminate flooring, running trim around a doorway or building a wooden garden feature - the difference between doing it with a hammer or hand tacker versus a proper power tool is measured in hours over the course of a project. The Nail and Staple Guns collection at MTN Shop UK covers the full range of powered fastening tools from hobby-grade 4V minis up to trade pneumatic combi guns, from five brand reference specialists.

Cordless staple and nail guns

Cordless staple/nail guns are the modern trade default: no trailing cables to snag on the workpiece, no compressor to lug from job to job, batteries deliver hundreds of fires per charge, and the smaller entry-level cordless tools have replaced hand tackers for most upholstery, cable clipping and hobby fixing work. The collection covers cordless across the full voltage range:

  • 4V hobby cordless: the Tacwise Hobby 53-13EL Cordless Staple/Nail Gun 4V is the entry-point cordless for occasional hobby use, upholstery repair, craft work and light domestic fixing where a mains cable or a full-size cordless is overkill.
  • 7.2V mini cordless: the Rapid BTX530 and BTX140 Stapler/Nailer are the compact 7.2V Li-ion tools that fit in a tool bag and go anywhere: one for the Rapid 53 staple system, the other for the Rapid 140 system.
  • 12V mid-tier cordless: the Tacwise 140-180EL Cordless Staple/Nail Gun 12V and 53-13EL Cordless Staple/Nail Gun 12V are the practical middle-ground between hobby and full trade specification, with better run time than 7.2V and lighter weight than 18V.
  • 18V professional cordless: the Tacwise Ranger EL-Pro Cordless Staple/Nail Gun 18V, the Einhell TE-CN 18 Li-Solo Power X-Change 18V Nailer, and the Batavia MAXXPACK Stapler-Nailer 18V are the trade specification for continuous site use and the compatibility choice for users already on the respective 18V battery platforms.

Corded electric staple/nail guns

Corded electric guns run from mains power for continuous workshop use where portability is not the priority. Key models:

  • Rapid PRO R606 Electric Staple/Nail Gun: the trade specification corded electric from Rapid, sized for upholstery workshops, insulation crews, cable clippers and any high-volume repetitive fastening work where continuous mains power beats swapping batteries.
  • Tacwise Duo 35 Nailer/Stapler 240V: the Tacwise corded combi that fires both staples and brad nails from the same tool, right for joinery workshops and general trade fastening work.
  • Stanley 0-TRE550 Electric Staple/Nail Gun: the Stanley Sharpshooter Fatmax electric, the compact heavy-duty corded staple gun for continuous workshop use, compatible with Stanley TRA and TRE staple systems.

Pneumatic combi nailer/staplers

Pneumatic tools run from a compressor and deliver the fastest fastening rate of any powered tool: right for high-volume production work where a compressor setup is already in place. The air tools and compressors collection covers the compressors themselves; the pneumatic guns in this collection include:

  • Rapid PBS151 Pneumatic Combi Nailer/Stapler: the trade pneumatic combi with 150mm brad nail capacity and Rapid staple compatibility. Right for upholstery production, insulation crews, general trim and joinery installation.
  • Rapid PBS121 Pneumatic Combi Nailer/Stapler: the lighter pneumatic combi with 120mm brad nail capacity and Rapid staple compatibility. The general-purpose trade pneumatic combi for workshop and site use.

Combi tools: staples AND nails from one gun

Several tools in this collection are combi models that fire both staples and brad nails from the same magazine, with the operator setting whether to use staples or brads at the load stage. The advantage: one tool that covers both fastening types without carrying two separate guns. The Tacwise 140-180EL, 53-13EL, Duo 35, Ranger EL-Pro; the Rapid PRO R606, PBS151, PBS121, BTX530 and BTX140; the Batavia MAXXPACK; and the Stanley TRE550 are all combi tools. Dedicated single-purpose nailers (18-gauge brad nailers, 15-gauge angled finish nailers) are also available in the wider power tool range.

Staple systems: which one your gun takes

Staple guns take specific staple systems that are not interchangeable across brands. Common systems in this collection:

  • Rapid 13: the fine wire flat crown system for Rapid hand and mini electric tackers - light general work, insulation, fabric.
  • Rapid 53: the medium duty system for Rapid and compatible electric tackers - cable clipping, upholstery, site work. Tacwise 53 series is compatible.
  • Rapid 140: the heavy duty flat crown system for Rapid and Tacwise heavy tackers - roofing felt, insulation batten, hardwood.
  • Stanley TRA: the Stanley Sharpshooter system (TRA2 light, TRA4 medium, TRA7 heavy) - runs in Stanley TRE and Sharpshooter guns.
  • Arrow T50: the US-originated heavy duty system used in Arrow hand guns - not covered by tools in this specific collection but stocked in our staples and accessories range.

Check the staple system your intended tool takes before ordering, and match the staples/brads (from our staples and accessories collection) to the tool. Systems are not interchangeable: Rapid 53 staples will not fire in a Stanley TRA tool, and Rapid 140 will not fit in a Tacwise 53 tool.

Cordless vs corded vs pneumatic: which format

  • Cordless (4V, 7.2V, 12V, 18V): the versatile choice for site work, mixed jobs, occasional use and any application where portability matters more than sustained volume. Batteries deliver hundreds to thousands of fires per charge. Right for the vast majority of trade and hobby users today.
  • Corded electric (240V): the workshop choice for continuous high-volume work in one location - upholstery workshops, insulation crews at a fixed staging area, cable clipping across large runs. No battery management, sustained power, cheaper per tool than 18V cordless equivalents.
  • Pneumatic: the highest-rate production choice where a compressor is already set up - upholstery production lines, joinery workshops making batches, roofing crews with mobile compressors. Fastest fire rate, longest tool service life, but requires the compressor and airline setup.

Common applications

  • Insulation fixing: Rapid 13 or 53 hand tackers or cordless minis with 8-10mm staples for fixing insulation batts to timber studs.
  • Roofing felt on outbuildings: Tacwise or Rapid 140 hand/cordless tackers with 10-12mm galvanised staples.
  • Upholstery and fabric fixing: corded electric or pneumatic tackers in Rapid 53 or similar - the Rapid PRO R606 or PBS121 pneumatic are the typical upholstery workshop specification.
  • Cable clipping: mini cordless (Rapid BTX530, Tacwise 53-13EL 12V) with 8mm staples for low-voltage cable, alarm cable, network cable clipping down stud walls.
  • Craft and hobby fixing: Tacwise Hobby 53-13EL 4V or Rapid BTX140 7.2V for occasional light fixing without needing a full-size gun.
  • Brad nailing for trim and light joinery: combi tools with 18-gauge or 16-gauge brad nail capacity for skirting boards, dado rails, beading and cabinet backing.
  • Site trim work: professional 18V cordless combi tools (Tacwise Ranger EL-Pro, Einhell TE-CN 18, Batavia MAXXPACK) for second-fix carpentry and general site fastening.

Spares and consumables

Nail and staple guns are consumables-based tools: the staples and brads themselves are consumed with every fire, and tool parts like nose pieces and driver blades wear over time. Keep spare staples/brads in the correct system for your tool (see our staples and accessories collection), plus spare nose pieces for tools like the Tacwise 191EL (the 0849 Spare Nose Pieces pack of 5 is stocked here for existing 191EL users). Running out of consumables halfway through a job is one of the most common frustrations with fastening tools - buy in bulk for high-volume users.

Safety

  • Contact safety trigger: all modern nail and staple guns include a contact safety trigger that prevents accidental discharge when the tool is not pressed against a workpiece. Do not defeat this feature.
  • Eye protection: always wear safety glasses - occasional deflections and jam clearance risks make eye protection essential.
  • Never fire toward yourself or others: keep the tool nose oriented at the workpiece; a misfire or over-fire can send the fastener through and beyond the workpiece.
  • Disconnect power/air before jam clearance: disconnect the battery, unplug the mains, or disconnect the air line before opening the magazine to clear a jam.
  • Know what is behind the workpiece: for wall fastening, understand what services are behind the plasterboard - cables, pipes and joist edges are all vulnerable to over-driven fasteners.
  • PAT testing: corded electric tools and battery chargers should be PAT tested per the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 for commercial use.

Choosing the right tool

  • Occasional hobby use: Tacwise Hobby 53-13EL Cordless 4V or Rapid BTX140 7.2V.
  • Regular DIY and light trade: Rapid BTX530/BTX140 7.2V, or Tacwise 12V range.
  • Professional site trim and second-fix: Tacwise Ranger EL-Pro 18V (on Tacwise platform) or Einhell TE-CN 18 Li (Power X-Change) or Batavia MAXXPACK 18V.
  • Continuous workshop stapling (upholstery, insulation, cable clipping): Rapid PRO R606 corded electric or Tacwise Duo 35 240V.
  • High-volume production with compressor setup: Rapid PBS151 or PBS121 pneumatic combi.
  • Stanley TRA staple system user: Stanley 0-TRE550 Sharpshooter Fatmax electric.
  • Insulation and roofing felt work: hand tackers or cordless in Rapid 140 or Tacwise 140 (heavy duty system).
