Blackedge

We sell Blackedge carpenter's pencils in packs of 12, with an oblong section that sharpens to a chisel-shaped edge rather than a point. This shape stops the pencil following the wood grain, keeping your marking line straight and accurate on site.

Available in three colour-coded grades — green (hard), red (medium) and blue (soft) — plus an assorted pack covering all three. Choose the grade to match your material, from softwood and newly felled timber through to hardwood, brickwork and plastered walls.

Blackedge Carpenter's Pencils

MTN Shop sells Blackedge carpenter's pencils, a trade-standard marking pencil used by carpenters and joiners across the UK. Unlike a standard round pencil, the oblong body sharpens to a wide, chisel-shaped edge that resists breaking and won't follow the grain of the wood when marking a straight line.

Choosing the Right Grade

  • Green (hard): for hardwoods, brickwork and plastered walls, where a softer lead would wear down too quickly.
  • Red (medium): for general carpentry, offering a balance of durability and visible marking on most timber.
  • Blue (soft): for softwoods and newly felled timber, where a softer lead marks more clearly on damp or less dense material.

Each grade is sold in a card of 12, and we also sell an assorted pack of 12 covering all three grades for anyone working across different materials on the same job.
