Steinel Heat Guns for Trade and Industrial Use

Steinel is the German brand that invented the modern electronically controlled heat gun, founded in 1959 and based in Herzebrock-Clarholz. Steinel heat guns are specified by plumbers, electricians, roofers, sign makers, car wrappers, packaging engineers and industrial maintenance teams across Europe for paint stripping, shrink wrapping, soldering, plastic welding, vinyl application and shaping. At MTN Shop UK we sell the Steinel range covering HL pistol grip models for general trade use and HG barrel grip models for industrial and continuous duty applications, in both 110V site and 240V mains voltages.

Our Steinel collection covers everything from the entry level HL1620S 2-stage airflow heat gun through to the industrial HG2620E at 2300W, plus the popular HG2120E Car Wrapper Kit for vinyl application and the HL Scan temperature detection accessory. Wattages range from 1300W to 2300W, with LCD display, electronic temperature control, and 2 or 3 stage airflow on the premium models.

Pair Steinel with the rest of our power tools range. Browse our DeWalt, Makita and Bosch power tools, soldering irons, strippers, plus heat resistant gloves and safety eyewear from our PPE range.

Steinel Heat Guns at MTN Shop UK

Founded by Heinrich-Wilhelm Steinel in Herzebrock-Clarholz, Germany in 1959, Steinel became the company that brought electronic control to the heat gun category in the 1980s, replacing crude on/off devices with precision temperature regulation. Six decades later, Steinel is one of the most respected names in heat gun engineering, with production still in Germany and Switzerland. Trade users choose Steinel because the temperature output is predictable, the heating element holds its rating through continuous duty cycles, and the airflow stages let you match output to the job rather than overheating the workpiece.

Steinel HL pistol grip heat guns

The HL series is the Steinel pistol grip range, designed for trade users who need a portable heat gun for paint stripping, plumbing, shrink tube work and general site use:

  • Steinel HL1620S: entry level 1600W 240V model with 2 stage airflow, suitable for paint stripping, plastic shaping and general DIY plus light trade use.
  • Steinel HL1820S: available in 1300W 110V site spec and 1800W 240V mains spec, pistol grip with electronic control, ideal for shrink wrap, plumbing and electrical work.
  • Steinel HL2020E: top of the HL range at 2200W 240V with 3 stage airflow, LCD display and full electronic temperature control from 50°C to 630°C in 10°C steps.

Steinel HG industrial barrel grip heat guns

The HG series moves up to industrial barrel grip designs, built for production environments and continuous duty:

  • Steinel HG2120E Car Wrapper Kit: a 2200W 240V kit designed specifically for vinyl car wrapping, with the right nozzles and a flow profile that warms the film without scorching it.
  • Steinel HG2320E: 2300W 240V industrial model with LCD display, full temperature control and a barrel grip suited to long shifts and overhead work.
  • Steinel HG2420E: 1400W 110V site spec industrial barrel grip, ideal for construction sites that run a 110V transformer.
  • Steinel HG2620E: 2300W 240V top spec industrial barrel grip, the workhorse for plastic welding, packaging and continuous production.

Steinel HL Scan

The Steinel HL Scan is a temperature detection accessory that clips onto compatible Steinel heat guns and reads the surface temperature of the workpiece in real time. This lets the operator hit the exact temperature required by the material, avoiding overheating delicate substrates such as vinyl film, electronics and certain plastics.

Choosing the right Steinel heat gun

  • Voltage: 110V models are for UK construction sites running a 110V transformer. 240V models are for mains use in workshops, garages, factories and domestic settings.
  • Wattage: higher wattage means more heat output and faster work, but also higher current draw. 1300W to 1800W suits most trade work. 2200W to 2300W is for industrial production and continuous use.
  • Pistol grip (HL) vs barrel grip (HG): pistol grip is more comfortable for handheld site work. Barrel grip balances better for overhead, stationary and long duration tasks.
  • Electronic control: the "E" suffix indicates full electronic temperature control, essential for materials with a narrow process window such as vinyl wrap, heat shrink and certain plastics.

Steinel works alongside the rest of our power tools and consumables range. Browse our wider soldering irons and guns, paint strippers, our DeWalt, Makita and Bosch power tools, plus safety gloves, safety eyewear and respiratory protection from our PPE range. Heat guns can produce fumes when stripping old lead based paint, so use appropriate respiratory protection.

Steinel is a German company founded by Heinrich-Wilhelm Steinel in Herzebrock-Clarholz in 1959. The brand brought electronic control to the heat gun category in the 1980s, replacing crude on/off devices with precision temperature regulation. The HL series is the pistol grip range, designed for trade and site users who need a portable heat gun. The HG series is the industrial barrel grip range, with better balance for overhead work, stationary use and continuous production. HG models also tend to offer higher wattage, more robust heating elements and longer duty cycles, making them the choice for workshop and factory use.

Choose 110V if you work on UK construction sites that supply power through a 110V transformer, which is the regulated norm for site power tools. Choose 240V for workshop, garage, factory and domestic use where you plug into standard mains. Steinel makes the popular HL1820S and HG2420E in both voltages, so you can match the tool to your power supply.
The HG2120E is a 2200W 240V heat gun supplied as a kit for vinyl car wrapping. It comes with the right nozzles and flow profile to warm vinyl film evenly so it can be stretched and shaped over panels without scorching. Car wrappers and detailers use it to apply colour change films, paint protection films and signwriting vinyl.
The "E" suffix indicates full electronic temperature control, where the operator can set a target temperature and the heat gun maintains it precisely. Non electronic models simply switch between airflow and temperature stages. Electronic control is essential for materials with a narrow process window such as vinyl wrap, heat shrink tubing and certain plastics where overheating ruins the finish.

It transforms the heat gun from a guess based tool to a precision instrument.
