Secateurs: Bypass or Anvil?

Choosing the Right Tool
Match the tool to the branch, not the other way around: secateurs suit stems up to around 20-25mm, loppers extend that range using leverage, and anything thicker needs a pruning saw. Using a lopper beyond its rated capacity risks damaging the tool and crushing the cut rather than making a clean one, which slows the plant's healing and increases disease risk.
