Frequently Asked Questions

Doughty scenery fixings are the standard hardware used by scenic departments to construct, brace, fly and join stage scenery in professional theatres, film sets and TV studios. The range covers flying irons and hanging irons for suspending panels from flying bars, scenery braces for supporting freestanding flats, hinges for joining frames and grummets for attaching drapes and borders.
A Doughty flying iron is a steel bracket attached to the top of a scenery flat or panel that provides a connection point for flying the piece from a lighting bar or fly bar. Flat flying irons are used mid-frame where a lipped iron cannot be used. Lipped flying irons grip the top edge of a flat. Both versions are supplied with an M8 bow shackle for connection to a wire rope or sling.
A Doughty scenery brace is an adjustable steel support used to brace freestanding scenery flats and panels from the stage floor. Fixed and extending versions are available from 1m to 4m in length. The brace is used with a Doughty stage screw at the floor end and a coach eye at the flat end to hold the scenery panel upright and prevent it from falling during a performance.
