Grip Equipment

Grip equipment covers the mounting hardware and accessories used to position, support and modify lighting on film, TV and theatre sets. The grip department handles all non-electrical rigging — from positioning lights and flags to building custom camera and lighting rigs. Drop arms, grip heads and gobo arms are the core components that allow a single stand to support lights, reflectors, flags and diffusion in virtually any position.

Part of our entertainment and stage rigging range. Browse all rigging accessories or visit our rigging hardware guide for more information.

Types in this range

  • Drop arms — horizontal extension arms that attach to a stand or tube via a grip head, used to offset a light or modifier away from the stand centre; available in various lengths
  • Grip heads (gobo heads) — the rotating clamp that connects a drop arm to a stand or tube, allowing 360° of movement horizontally and vertically; the standard interface between a stand and any arm or accessory
  • Modular rigging components — T-bars, stirrups and connectors from the Doughty Modular Rigging System for building custom lighting ladders, H-frames and drop arm arrays from truss or fixed tube

Typical applications

  • Film and TV production — positioning lights, flags, nets and diffusion frames off a single C-stand or lighting stand
  • Theatre side lighting — extending fixtures away from a boom arm to achieve the correct lighting angle
  • Studio lighting rigs — building modular drop arm systems from truss for multiple fixture positions on a single rigging point
  • Location shoots — compact, lightweight grip hardware for fast rigging in tight spaces

Safety note: Always check the SWL of the grip head and drop arm against the combined weight of the fixture and any accessories before rigging overhead.
