Doughty Safety Bonds and Safety Cables for Stage Rigging

Doughty safety bonds are a legal requirement when rigging any fixture overhead in the UK under the Health and Safety at Work Act. A safety bond is attached to the fixture and to the bar or truss independently of the primary clamp, so that if the clamp fails the fixture cannot fall. All Doughty safety bonds are manufactured from stainless or galvanised steel wire rope with a loop at each end, rated by WLL and available in a range of lengths and capacities to suit different fixture weights and rigging configurations.

Accessories

  • Doughty Karabiner: for attaching safety bonds to bars, truss and fixture handles where a standard loop connection is not suitable.
  • Doughty Lynch Pin with Wire: a secondary retention pin for spigot connections, preventing the spigot from disengaging under vibration or load.

What to Look For

  • WLL: always select a Doughty safety bond with a WLL that equals or exceeds the total weight of the fixture including any accessories attached to it.
  • Length: the safety bond should be short enough that if the primary fixing fails, the fixture cannot swing and strike people or equipment below.
  • Finish: standard galvanised bonds for indoor use. Stainless steel bonds for outdoor events, touring and environments where corrosion resistance is required.
  • TV Spec: TV spec bonds meet specific broadcast industry requirements for studio and film set use.

Doughty Safety Bonds are required in most professional venues, theatres, studios, and live event spaces.
Always select Doughty Safety Bonds with a safe working load (SWL) equal to or greater than the weight of the fixture being secured. As a general guide: the 5kg bond suits barn doors and lightweight accessories; the 15kg Doughty Safety Bonds are ideal for Parcans, Fresnels, and most LED fittings; the 20kg and 36kg versions suit larger theatre lanterns and smaller moving heads; while the 100kg Doughty Safety Bonds are designed for large moving heads and heavy installations.
