Half Couplers

Doughty half couplers are the standard aluminium wrap-around clamp for attaching stage lighting fixtures, moving heads, speakers and rigging accessories directly to truss chords and lighting bars. Unlike a hook clamp, a half coupler wraps fully around the tube and tightens with a single M10 or M12 bolt, giving a secure low-profile fixing rated up to 500kg WLL. TÜV approved and used across theatre, film, TV studios and live events.

Doughty Half Couplers - Stage Lighting Clamps

Doughty half couplers are the professional wrap-around stage clamp used to attach lighting fixtures, moving heads, speakers and rigging accessories to truss chords and lighting bars. The half coupler wraps fully around the tube rather than simply hooking over it, giving a stronger grip, a lower profile and a higher Safe Working Load than a standard hook clamp. All Doughty half couplers are manufactured from high-tensile extruded aluminium, independently TÜV certified and CE marked, with the SWL stamped directly onto the body.

What to Look For

  • SWL: standard half couplers are rated to 500kg. Atom versions 100kg. Always verify the rated load for your application and ensure it exceeds the total suspended load.
  • Profile width: slimline versions at 30mm wide fit between truss web bars where a standard 50mm coupler would not clear.
  • Tube diameter: 25mm to 38mm for Atom, 48mm to 51mm for standard, 60mm to 63mm for Mammoth.
  • Certifications: all Doughty half couplers are independently TÜV certified for entertainment rigging.

Frequently Asked Questions

A hook clamp attaches to a tube by hooking over it and is secured with a single bolt. A half coupler wraps fully around the tube for a greater grip. Hook clamps are faster to fit and suitable for most standard applications. Half couplers are preferred for heavier loads or where a hook clamp might twist under the load direction.
Doughty half couplers are available in three tube size ranges. The Atom range covers 25mm to 38mm for lightweight truss and stand centre tubes. The standard range covers 48mm to 51mm for stage lighting bars and scaffold tube. The Mammoth range covers 60mm to 63mm for large-format truss chords. A Doughty slimline half coupler is 30mm wide rather than the standard 50mm, allowing it to fit between truss web bars where a standard coupler would not clear.
