Petrol Engine & Other Spares
Petrol engine and other spares for garden machinery servicing and maintenance: 2-stroke oil and 4-stroke oil for chainsaws, brushcutters, hedge trimmers, mowers and generators, chainsaw bar and chain oil for lubricating the cutting bar, spark plugs across all common Champion cross-reference codes for garden machinery, plus fuel enhancers, petrol fuel pipes and filters, hedge trimmer lubricants and other petrol engine service consumables. This is the collection for domestic gardeners doing seasonal machine servicing, garden maintenance contractors, small engine repair shops, arborists, groundskeepers, landscape contractors and farm users who need reliable maintenance consumables at trade specification.
You will find 2-stroke engine oils for chainsaws, brushcutters and hedge trimmers (mixed with petrol at specified ratios), 4-stroke engine oils for larger mowers, ride-on mowers, generators and pressure washers (separate crankcase lubrication), chainsaw bar and chain oils for automatic bar lubrication, one-shot single-dose oil bottles for pre-measured convenience, plus the full range of Champion cross-reference spark plugs (CJ8, DJ8J, J19LM/J17LM, RCJ7Y, RN9YC and general purpose GP281) covering essentially every common UK garden petrol engine.
The brands here are the trade references: ALM Manufacturing (the widest range with 2-stroke oils, 4-stroke oils, chainsaw oils, spark plugs, fuel enhancers and petrol engine spares - all cross-referenced to the OEM specifications), and DEWALT (with the DT20662 Chainsaw Oil 1 litre and DT20666 Hedge Trimmer Lubricant).

Petrol engine spares and garden machinery maintenance at MTN Shop UK
Petrol garden machinery needs regular servicing to keep running reliably through the season - and running the wrong oil, using a worn spark plug, or letting fuel go stale in the tank over winter causes the majority of petrol machine problems. The Petrol Engine & Other Spares collection covers the maintenance consumables and service parts that every petrol chainsaw, brushcutter, hedge trimmer, mower and generator needs across a normal working year.
2-stroke oil
2-stroke oil is mixed with petrol in a specified ratio (typically 50:1 or 40:1, always check the machine manual) and used in 2-stroke engines: most chainsaws, brushcutters, hedge trimmers, blowers, older strimmers and some smaller mowers. The oil lubricates the engine internal parts as it burns with the petrol - no separate crankcase like a 4-stroke engine. The ALM 2-stroke oil range covers standard specification (ALM OL001, OL202), mixing bottles for pre-mix preparation (ALM MX002), and one-shot single-dose bottles (ALM OL120 2-Stroke One Shot, One Shot Oil 100ml) that give a pre-measured amount for a standard fuel can - the practical option for occasional users who forget mixing ratios or do not want to store larger bottles.
4-stroke oil
4-stroke oil lubricates the engine crankcase in 4-stroke engines separately from the fuel - never mixed with petrol. Used in larger petrol mowers, ride-on mowers, generators, pressure washers and larger equipment. Typical specification is SAE 30 or SAE 10W-30 for garden machinery. The ALM 4-stroke oil range (OL006, OL204, OL506) covers the standard specifications for UK garden machinery. Using 4-stroke oil in a 2-stroke engine (or vice versa) will damage the engine and is not a swap that can be made in an emergency - always use the specified oil type.
Chainsaw bar and chain oil
Chainsaw bar and chain oil is a specific lubricant for the cutting bar and chain, dispensed automatically by the chainsaw's built-in pump onto the chain as it runs. Different specification from engine oil - purpose-designed for bar lubrication with the correct viscosity and tackiness to stay on the chain rather than fling off at high speed. The ALM chainsaw oil range (OL010 Chainsaw Oil, OL203, OL510) plus the DEWALT DT20662 Chainsaw Oil 1 litre cover this specific requirement. Refill the bar oil reservoir at every petrol refill - a chainsaw running without bar oil damages the chain, the bar and the sprocket quickly.
Spark plugs (Champion cross-reference)
Spark plugs are the ignition heart of every petrol engine and need periodic replacement (typically every 100 hours or annually). ALM Manufacturing spark plugs are cross-referenced to the standard Champion codes used across UK garden machinery:
- ALM CJ8 Spark Plug (Champion CJ8 equivalent): Flymo hover mowers, small 2-stroke engines.
- ALM DJ8J Spark Plug (Champion DJ8J equivalent): chainsaws, brushcutters, small 2-stroke garden machinery.
- ALM J19LM/J17LM Spark Plug (Champion J19LM equivalent): Briggs & Stratton petrol lawn mower engines.
- ALM RCJ7Y Spark Plug (Champion RCJ7Y equivalent): small chainsaws, Husqvarna and equivalent 2-stroke.
- ALM RN9YC Spark Plug (Champion RN9YC equivalent): larger 4-stroke engines including Honda GX and larger Briggs & Stratton.
- ALM GP281 Spark Plug: general purpose spark plug for common garden machinery specifications.
Check your machine manual or the old spark plug for the correct code before ordering. Fitting the wrong spark plug reach or heat range causes poor running, misfires and eventual engine damage.
Fuel enhancer, petrol pipes and hedge trimmer lubricant
The ALM MS002 Fuel Enhancer is a fuel treatment that stabilises petrol against deterioration during storage - essential for garden machinery that sits unused for months between growing seasons. Stale petrol is one of the most common causes of "will not start" problems in spring, and a fuel stabiliser added to the tank before winter storage prevents this. The ALM SA141 Petrol Pipe & Filter is a replacement fuel line and filter for petrol garden machinery where the original fuel line has degraded, cracked or become blocked (common failure on older machines). The DEWALT DT20666 Hedge Trimmer Lubricant is a specific lubricant for hedge trimmer blade action - reduces friction on the reciprocating blade set for smoother cutting and longer blade life.
Handle and starter hardware
The ALM FL198 Flymo Upper Handle is a replacement mower handle for Flymo models where the original handle is broken or damaged. The ALM GP033 Handle & Cable covers replacement pull-start handles and starter cords, one of the most common breakage points on petrol garden machinery from repeated starting force.
