Doughty Rope and Cable Management for Theatre Fly Systems
Doughty rope and cable management components are the specialist hardware used in theatre fly systems and flybar installations to organise, tension and control hauling lines and operating ropes. Used by theatre riggers and stage managers in professional theatres, performing arts venues and TV studios, the range covers swivel clews for gathering multiple lift lines, flyrail cleats for securing hauling lines at the fly floor, and rope brakes for controlling line speed and tension during flying operations.
Products in This Range
- Doughty Swivel Clews: used to gather multiple lift lines from loft blocks into a single point for connection to a counterweight arbor or hand line. Available in 3-way, 4-way and 5-way configurations for different numbers of lift lines per bar.
- Doughty Flyrail Cleats: wall-mounted cleats for securing and belaying hauling lines at the fly floor. Available in 300mm, 375mm and 450mm sizes for different rope diameters and load requirements.
- Doughty Flyrail Cleats (Heavy Duty): heavy duty flyrail cleats in 285mm (T41904), 375mm (T41902) and 440mm (T41900) sizes for higher load flying systems.
- Doughty Rope Brake: a friction device used to control the speed of a hauling line during flying operations, preventing uncontrolled descent of a flying piece.
What to Look For
- Swivel clew configuration: match the number of attachment points to the number of lift lines on your flying bar. A 3-way clew suits a bar with three loft blocks, a 4-way suits four and so on.
- Flyrail cleat size: select the cleat size based on the diameter of the hauling line and the load on the flying bar. Larger cleats provide more rope wrap and greater holding capacity.
- Installation: all fly system components should be installed and inspected by a qualified theatre rigger. LOLER regulations apply to all lifting equipment used in entertainment venues in the UK.
Pair with stage pulleys, wire rope and fittings and our full rigging hardware range for a complete fly system solution.
