Hozelock – Product list

Hozelock at MTN Shop UK

Hozelock is one of those British brands whose product name has become the everyday term for the whole product category. If you say "pass me the Hozelock connector" to anyone with a garden in the UK, they know exactly what you mean, regardless of whose brand is actually on the fitting. The company was founded in Birmingham in 1959 and has stayed close to its original speciality: hose-related garden products that fit together in a simple, reliable click-in system that has become the industry standard.

Hose connectors and the Hozelock Pro system

The heart of the Hozelock range is the click-fit connector system: the male half attaches to the hose end, the female half to the tap or to another accessory (spray gun, lance, sprinkler), and the two click together in a couple of seconds without threading or leaking. The Hozelock Pro range is the trade specification: metal-bodied connectors that outlast the plastic versions by years, plus the tap connector fitting kit that adapts to every common UK garden tap outlet (round, hexagonal, threaded, mixer). The whole system is backwards compatible: a fitting bought today will click into a hose end from 1990 without issue.

Hose reels

The Hozelock hose reel range covers wall-mounted, free-standing and portable cart formats:

  • Wall-mounted reels: the practical choice for garages, garden walls and permanent locations. Auto Reel versions include an automatic retraction mechanism that pulls the hose back without kinking.
  • Free-standing reels: portable for larger gardens where the water outlet and the watering area are far apart, or for allotments where wall mounting is not practical.
  • Compact cart reels: lightweight design for smaller gardens and easier storage.

Spray guns and lances

The spray gun sits between the hose and the water outlet, controlling flow and spray pattern. Hozelock covers the range from budget plastic single-pattern guns up to the metal-bodied trade spray guns with multiple adjustable jets (fine mist for seedlings, medium for shrubs, hard jet for cleaning). Lances extend the reach for hanging baskets, high shrubs and greenhouse work. All standard Hozelock spray guns fit the click-fit system, so swapping between guns and sprinklers on the same hose end takes seconds.

Sprinklers

The Hozelock sprinkler range covers the three common types:

  • Oscillating sprinklers: the classic rectangular pattern for lawn irrigation, adjustable spray width and length.
  • Rotating sprinklers: circular patterns for smaller lawns and flower beds, adjustable range and arc.
  • Static and pop-up sprinklers: permanent installation for automated garden watering.

Pressure sprayers

The Hozelock pressure sprayer range covers weed control, plant feed, pest and disease treatment, and general garden and outdoor cleaning. Sizes from small 1L handheld units for small gardens and precise application, up to 7L and 10L knapsack sprayers for allotments, orchards and larger properties. The pressure sprayer sits alongside the wider garden sprayers category with alternatives from Matabi and other specialists.

Watering cans

Watering cans in the Hozelock range are made in plastic (lighter, cheaper, easier for children and older gardeners) and metal (traditional, longer lasting, better balance when full). Sizes from 1.5L nursery cans up to 9L and 15L capacity for larger watering runs, with fine rose fittings for seedlings and coarse rose for established plants.

Hozelock for trade and commercial use

Hozelock is not just for domestic gardens. Landscape gardeners, groundskeepers at schools and sports venues, garden centres, allotment holders, holiday parks and commercial property managers all use the Hozelock range because the click-fit system means kit is interchangeable across sites and gets replaced by the local garden centre rather than a specialist supplier. For trade users the Hozelock Pro metal-bodied range is worth the price difference over the plastic domestic range for the extra service life on high-use kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Hozelock's click-fit connector system is the de facto UK standard, and connectors from other brands (Flopro, Karcher garden range, most supermarket own-brand ranges) are designed to fit the same system. Hozelock connectors on a hose end will accept other brand fittings on the tap or accessory side, and the other way round. The exception is high-pressure quick-release systems (some pressure washer fittings) which use their own dedicated connectors and are not compatible with the standard Hozelock garden system. If you are not sure, take the old connector or a photo to a garden centre and confirm before buying.
The standard Hozelock range uses plastic-bodied connectors and fittings, which are lighter, cheaper and adequate for domestic garden use. The Hozelock Pro range uses metal-bodied connectors, spray guns and fittings that survive being dropped on paving, driven over by a wheelbarrow and left out in frost, all of which will eventually break the plastic versions. For domestic gardens the standard range is fine. For trade use, allotments, holiday parks, sports grounds and any application where the kit is in heavy daily use, the Hozelock Pro metal range is worth the price difference over the plastic version for the extra service life.
Hozelock was founded in Birmingham in 1959 and remained a British-owned manufacturer for much of its history. Some production still happens in the UK (particularly for the metal Pro range and the aquatic Cyprio pond products), while other lines are manufactured overseas to Hozelock specification. The company is now part of the Exel Industries group (French, acquired in 2015), which owns several garden and industrial spraying brands. The design, engineering and quality specification of the Hozelock range continues from the original Birmingham base, and the connector system remains the reason the brand is trusted in the UK trade.
The Auto Reel wall-mounted reels are weather resistant and can stay mounted outside year-round in most of the UK. What you should not do is leave water in the hose over winter: frost expansion of water inside the hose splits the reel casing and the internal fittings, and the damage is not covered under normal warranty. Before the first hard frost of autumn, drain the hose completely by running out all the water with the tap off, wind it back onto the reel, and cover or bring indoors the tap connector fittings. In practice most people just leave the reel mounted and drain it in October, then reconnect in April.
Leaks at Hozelock connectors are almost always caused by one of three issues: the connector was not clicked fully home (push firmly until you hear the second click), the rubber O-ring inside the female connector has perished or gone missing (replacement O-rings are cheap and sold in packs), or the hose end has been cut unevenly so the male connector cannot seal properly (cut the hose square with a sharp knife and re-fit the connector). If the leak is at the tap connector, the tap thread or the tap connector rubber washer may need replacing. A leak that appears after a few years of use is almost always the O-ring; a leak from day one is usually installation.
The Hozelock pressure sprayer range is designed for garden chemical use including weedkiller (glyphosate, contact herbicides), plant feed, fungicide and pesticide applications, and general garden cleaning solutions. Always rinse the sprayer thoroughly after use with any chemical, especially between different chemical types (never mix weedkiller residues with plant feed applications, the trace residue can damage the plants you are trying to feed). Some larger commercial-use professional herbicides may specify a dedicated sprayer that is never used with anything else, in which case a second sprayer is worth the cost to avoid cross-contamination.
It depends on where the water outlet is and how far you need to reach. For a permanent garden with the tap near a wall, a wall-mounted reel (particularly the Auto Reel with automatic retraction) is the tidiest and lasts longest because the hose stays out of the sun and off the ground. For larger gardens where you need to move the reel around, or for allotments and holiday parks where wall mounting is not possible, a free-standing or cart reel is more practical. For small gardens and easy storage, the compact cart formats are the right size. Match the hose length to your reach requirement plus a metre or two of slack; hoses always seem shorter in use than they look on the reel.
