Impact Drivers
We sell impact drivers from Bosch, DeWalt, Makita, Metabo and Einhell, covering 12V and 18V cordless models with brushless motors for high torque, controlled fastening into wood, metal and masonry.
An impact driver delivers rotational force in rapid bursts rather than continuous torque, which drives screws and bolts faster with less strain on the operator's wrist than a standard drill. This makes it the go-to tool for repetitive fastening tasks, though it's a different tool from a combi drill, which is better suited to drilling holes and driving with more control at lower speed. See our combi drill vs impact driver guide for a full comparison if you're unsure which one you need.

Impact Drivers – Product list
How an impact driver works
Inside an impact driver, a hammer and anvil mechanism delivers concussive rotational blows when resistance builds against the bit, rather than stalling like a standard drill under heavy load. This gives significantly more driving torque for its size and weight, letting the tool sink long screws and lag bolts without the operator needing to force the tool by hand.
Choosing between 12V and 18V
12V models, such as the Bosch GDR 12V-105N and GDR 12V-110, are compact and lighter, suited to everyday fastening, tight spaces and users who don't need maximum output. 18V models, including the DeWalt DCF850N and Makita DTD152Z, carry more power for demanding trade and site work.
Hydraulic and combi impact driver/wrench models
The DeWalt DCF870E2T Hydraulic Impact Driver uses a hydraulic mechanism instead of a standard hammer and anvil, reducing noise and vibration while still delivering high torque, a useful option for repeated indoor fastening. Bosch's GDX range, including the GDX 18V-200 and GDX 18V-210 C, combines impact driver and impact wrench functions in one tool, switching between a 1/4in hex bit holder and a 1/2in square drive for fasteners and bolts on the same body.
Variable speed and multi-speed control
Multi-speed models like the DeWalt DCF887N 3 Speed Impact Driver let you dial back power and impact rate for delicate fastening, such as smaller screws or softer materials, then switch to full power for heavier bolts, without needing a separate tool for each task.
Battery platform compatibility
Most impact drivers in this range are sold as bare units, so they'll run on your existing battery platform from the same brand rather than needing a dedicated battery. Check our batteries and chargers for cordless tools range if you need a compatible battery or charger.
Standards and compliance
Impact drivers sold here comply with IEC 62841, the international safety standard for hand-held power tools, and carry CE and UKCA marking confirming they meet the relevant EU and UK safety requirements. Included batteries and chargers meet the relevant IEC 62133 battery safety standard.
