Metal Blades
Metal blades and replacement cutting blades for lawn mowers, brushcutters and anvil loppers - the metal cutting parts that wear, chip, bend and eventually need replacement to keep garden machinery working properly. This is the collection for domestic gardeners doing seasonal machine maintenance, garden maintenance contractors, groundskeepers, landscape contractors, small engine repair shops and land managers who need reliable replacement blades at trade specification.
You will find lawn mower metal blades in the full range of common sizes (32cm, 35cm, 40cm, 42cm, 46cm, 48cm and larger) for Flymo, Qualcast and other UK rotary mowers, brushcutter blades in tri-tooth, straight, multi-tooth and 8-tooth patterns for grass trimmers and brushcutters, and replacement anvil lopper blades for restoring cutting performance on Faithfull Countryman-style loppers. Key features across the range: OEM cross-reference compatibility with the original manufacturer part numbers, hardened steel construction for extended cutting life, and full range coverage for the machines most commonly serviced in UK domestic and trade use.
The brands here are the trade references for garden machinery blades: ALM Manufacturing (the widest range with the FL-series lawn mower blades and BD/BQ-series brushcutter blades), DEWALT (with the DT-series brushcutter blades DT20653 Tri, DT20654 Straight, DT20655 Multi-tooth and DT20671-QZ Mower Blade 48cm), and Faithfull (with the Countryman Anvil Lopper replacement blade).

Metal blades for garden machinery at MTN Shop UK
Metal blades on garden machinery are wear parts, not lifetime components. A rotary lawn mower metal blade loses its cutting edge after 20-40 hours of use, gets nicked or bent by stones and roots, and eventually needs replacement. A brushcutter blade works even harder - cutting through tough grass, brambles, saplings and light brush - and blades need periodic replacement plus regular sharpening between replacements. A replacement mower blade or brushcutter blade at the start of the growing season sets up the whole year of garden work.
Lawn mower metal blades (ALM FL-series)
The ALM Manufacturing FL-series covers the full range of lawn mower blade replacements for Flymo, Qualcast and other UK rotary mowers - metal blades rather than the plastic blades used in some hover mower designs. The blades cover common cutting widths from around 32cm through 48cm, with specific fit for each mower model - always cross-reference the ALM part number against your mower model before ordering. The ALM FL301, FL320, FL330 and FL332 cover the mid-size mower range; FL042, FL043, FL044, FL049 cover other model families; and FL063 and FL182 include blade plus height adjuster for models where the height adjustment is integrated with the blade fitting. For the largest mowers, the DEWALT DT20671-QZ Mower Blade 48cm is the DEWALT-branded option.
Brushcutter blades (tri-tooth, straight, multi-tooth, 8-tooth)
Brushcutters and heavy grass trimmers use metal blades rather than nylon line for tough vegetation cutting. Blade choice depends on the vegetation type:
- Tri-tooth (3-tooth) brushcutter blade: DEWALT DT20653 Tri Brushcutter Blade - the standard specification for thick grass, light brush and heavier weeds where nylon line struggles.
- Straight (2-tooth) brushcutter blade: DEWALT DT20654 Straight Brushcutter Blade - for grass cutting where the extra teeth of the tri blade are not needed.
- Multi-tooth brushcutter blade: DEWALT DT20655 Brushcutter Blade - for tougher vegetation including tough grass mats, brambles and light woody growth.
- 8-tooth and heavier metal blades: ALM Manufacturing BD033, BQ320, BQ340 Metal Blades - for brush clearance, sapling cutting and land management work where the vegetation is beyond typical trimmer capability.
Match the blade type to the work: light grass strimming does not need a brushcutter blade at all (nylon line is more effective and safer), but rough grass, weeds, brambles and light brush require the metal blade specification.
Anvil lopper replacement blades
The Faithfull Countryman Anvil Lopper Blade is a replacement blade for the anvil lopper design where the cutting blade closes onto a flat anvil (rather than passing a second blade like bypass loppers). Anvil lopper blades take heavy loads cutting through dead wood, thicker branches and hardwood prunings, and the blade eventually chips or the cutting edge wears past sharpening recovery. The replacement blade fits standard Faithfull Countryman range loppers and restores full cutting performance without needing to replace the whole tool.
When to replace metal blades
Signs a lawn mower blade needs replacement: cutting quality drops (grass looks torn rather than cut cleanly, ragged edges brown after cutting), noticeable increase in mower motor load or petrol engine strain, visible chips or bent tips on the blade, or the blade has been sharpened multiple times and the cutting edge has been ground back beyond safe use. Signs a brushcutter blade needs replacement: teeth broken or chipped, blade bent from stone impact, cutting slows noticeably even after sharpening, or visible cracks or fatigue at the mounting hole. Preventive replacement is significantly cheaper than emergency replacement mid-job - keep a spare in the shed for the start of the growing season.
How to identify the correct blade
Two reliable methods for identifying the correct replacement blade. Old blade part number: if the ALM part number or original OEM part number is still readable on the old blade, match directly to the replacement. Mower/brushcutter model number: check the machine model plate (usually on the underside of the deck or on the handle for mowers, on the motor housing for brushcutters) and cross-reference against the ALM catalogue or online fit guide. For DEWALT DT-series blades, check the compatibility list against your DEWALT brushcutter model. If you are not sure of the correct fit, take the machine model number to your merchant or contact us before ordering.
