Shovels and Spades by Job
MTN Shop stocks 206 products across shovels, spades, rakes and forks, covering site groundwork as well as agricultural and farm use. The right tool depends on what you're moving and where: a round-point shovel, such as the Roughneck Sharp Edge Round Shovel, lifts and moves loose material, while a flat spade, like the Fiskars Xact™ Pointed Spade, cuts through turf and compacted ground. For drainage and trenching work, the Roughneck Long Handled Trenching Shovel and Roughneck Sharp-Edge Drainage Shovel are shaped for narrower, deeper digging than a standard shovel.
Cable Laying and Insulated Shovels
Digging near live services requires insulated tools rather than standard steel shovels. The Bulldog Insulated Cable Laying Shovel and Bulldog Insulated Post Hole Digger reduce the risk of electric shock if a blade makes contact with a live cable while digging, and are specified on utility and groundworks jobs where this is a known hazard.
Post Hole Diggers
For setting fence posts, a manual post hole digger cuts a narrow, deep hole without disturbing the surrounding ground. The Roughneck Sharp Edge Posthole Digger 1.46m and Roughneck Dual-pivot Post Hole Digger use a clamshell action to lift soil out in a controlled column, rather than the wider disturbance of a standard shovel.
Farm and Agricultural Tools
Beyond groundwork, this collection covers forks and shovels built for farm use. The Faithfull Hay Fork Solid Socket 2-Prong and Faithfull Manure Fork are shaped for handling loose hay and muck rather than digging into soil, and the Roughneck Grain Shovel uses a wider, lighter blade suited to moving grain rather than heavier ground material.
Rakes for Soil and Landscaping
A soil rake, such as the Roughneck Sharp-Edge Soil Rake, has rigid tines for levelling and breaking up ground before seeding or turfing, while a leaf rake, like the Fiskars Classic Large Leaf Rake, has flexible tines for clearing debris without damaging turf. For larger landscaping jobs, the Roughneck Aluminium Landscape Rake is available in 600mm and 900mm widths to cover ground faster.
Warranty and Standards
All tools sold by MTN Shop are genuine stock, sourced through official UK distribution, so full manufacturer warranty applies as it would from the brand directly.
Choosing the Right Tool
For repeated digging or trenching, a solid-socket or all-steel construction generally outlasts a riveted head, which can work loose under sustained leverage. If you're digging near live cables or services, always use an insulated tool rated for that purpose rather than a standard shovel.
