Studio Rail Systems

Doughty Studio Rail is a heavy-duty overhead rail system designed for permanent installation in TV studios, film studios and photography spaces. Unlike curtain tracks, studio rail is built to suspend not only drapes and scenic backdrops but also pantographs, lighting fixtures and other studio equipment directly from the ceiling — keeping the studio floor clear of stands and cables.

Part of our entertainment and stage rigging range. Browse all rigging accessories or visit our rigging hardware guide for more information.

What studio rail is used for

  • Lighting suspension — mount pantographs directly on the rail for adjustable height control of studio lighting fixtures without floor stands
  • Curtain and drape systems — hang studio backdrops, cycloramas, masking drapes and scenic elements from a fixed overhead rail
  • Cable management — routing power and data cables overhead along the rail keeps the studio floor clear and safe
  • Broadcast and podcast studios — flexible backdrop and lighting positioning for multi-use studio spaces

Studio Rail vs Doughty Rail

  • Studio Rail — heavy duty aluminium, rated from 90kg, designed for professional broadcast, TV and film studio use; supports lighting and studio equipment as well as curtains
  • Doughty Rail — lightweight aluminium curtain track, rated to 60kg per 1.5m, for smaller venues, drama studios, schools and architectural installations

What to look for

  • Single, double or triple rail — multiple rail configurations allow independent movement of different drapes or equipment on the same system
  • Bracket type — wall brackets, ceiling brackets, slotted wall brackets and spacer plates available for different fixing situations
  • Finish — available in silver or black powder coat to suit your studio aesthetic
  • Pantograph compatibility — Doughty Studio Rail accepts Doughty pantographs via the six-wheel 28mm receiver carriage

Doughty Studio Rail has been installed in major studio projects including YouTube London, YouTube Berlin, Google DeepMind and the BBC Transmission Tower at Alexandra Palace.
