Frequently Asked Questions

What is the WLL of the Doughty Pivot Arm?
The Doughty Pivot Arm has a Working Load Limit of 4kg. This covers cameras, small lighting fixtures, flag frames, diffusion frames and lightweight grip accessories. Always ensure the total weight of the mounted equipment does not exceed 4kg.
What is the Doughty Pivot Arm used for?
The Doughty Pivot Arm is a multi-positioning grip arm used to mount and precisely position cameras, lighting fixtures, flags and diffusion frames in film, TV, photography and live event production. It mounts onto a Supaclamp or standard grip head and allows the attached equipment to be repositioned at any angle using a single locking lever.
Is the Doughty Pivot Arm compatible with standard grip heads and receivers?
Yes. The Doughty Pivot Arm features 16mm diameter studs at each end, tapped for both 1/4" and 3/8" UNC thread — compatible with the Doughty Supaclamp, standard 16mm grip heads, and any 16mm receiver used across the film, TV and studio industry.
What is the difference between the Doughty Pivot Arm and a magic arm?
They are the same type of product. Magic arm or articulating arm is the generic industry term for a multi-positioning grip arm with rotating ball joints and a locking elbow. The Doughty Pivot Arm features a 360° rotating toothed elbow joint and 360° rotating ball joints at each end, with a single lever that locks all pivots simultaneously.
How do I safely use the Doughty Pivot Arm on a lighting stand?
Always ensure the total load on the arm does not exceed the 4kg WLL. When mounting the arm on a lighting stand with a heavy camera or fixture, secure the base of the stand with a sandbag to prevent tipping. Position the stand so the arm extends over one of the stand's legs for maximum stability.
