SDS Plus Bits
Discover our range of SDS Plus bits from DEWALT, Starrett, Irwin, Faithfull and BlueSpot Tools, covering 2 and 4 point concrete drill bits, drill bit sets and long-reach bits up to 1000mm.
An SDS Plus bit locks into a hammer drill's chuck without a separate keyless mechanism, letting the hammer action drive straight through the bit shank for faster, more efficient drilling into concrete and masonry than a standard rotary-only bit could manage.

SDS Plus Bits – Product list
What is an SDS Plus bit?
SDS (Slotted Drive System) Plus is the most common hammer drill bit-fitting standard for rotary hammer drills and SDS combi drills, distinct from the larger SDS Max system used on heavier breakers and demolition hammers. The SDS Plus shank has two open and two closed grooves that let the bit slide and rotate freely in the chuck while still transferring the drill's hammer action directly into the masonry, concrete or brick being drilled. This is the key advantage over standard round-shank masonry bits, which rely entirely on the chuck to transfer force and wear out far quicker under repeated hammer action.
2 point vs 4 point concrete drill bits
The Starrett SDS Plus 2 Point Drill Bit Set (9 Piece) and individual sizes such as the 10 x 210mm and 16 x 210mm use a simpler two-cutting-edge carbide tip suited to general concrete and masonry drilling, fixing installation, and everyday site work. The Starrett SDS Plus 4 Point Drill Bit Set (5 Piece), with individual sizes like the 12 x 260mm and 25 x 460mm, adds two extra cutting edges for a more centred start, straighter hole and cleaner finish, particularly valuable on reinforced concrete, harder aggregate, or where precise hole placement is critical, such as fixing anchors or rebar detection work.
DEWALT concrete and masonry drill bits
DEWALT's XLR range is purpose-built for concrete drilling across common diameters and lengths, including the DT8908 (5mm), DT8917 (6.5mm), DT8924 (8mm), DT8929 (10mm) and DT8930 (10mm, longer), giving electricians and plumbers precise diameters for cable clips, conduit fixings and pipe brackets. For demanding, high-volume masonry drilling, the ELITE SDS+ Full Head Carbide 4 Cutter range and the EXTREME 2 range (available from 5mm up to 22mm and lengths to 450mm) use a full carbide head for significantly extended tip life over standard tipped bits, reducing bit changes on repetitive drilling jobs like curtain wall fixing or M&E first fix.
Irwin Speedhammer Quad drill bits
Irwin's Speedhammer Quad range uses a four-flute drill bit design engineered specifically for faster drilling speed and reduced vibration transfer to the operator compared to a standard two-flute masonry bit. The range spans diameters from 7.0mm through to 16.0mm across lengths of 160mm, 210mm, 260mm, 310mm and 460mm, giving electricians, plumbers and general contractors the flexibility to match a single trusted bit system to almost any fixing or conduit size on site.
SDS Plus drill bit sets
For general site use where multiple diameters are needed regularly, the Faithfull SDS Plus Drill Bit Set (10 Piece) and Starrett 2 point and 4 point sets cover a spread of common sizes in one purchase, working out more cost-effective than buying each diameter individually and ensuring the right size is always on hand. BlueSpot Tools' extended-length sets, in 450mm, 600mm and 1000mm lengths, are built for deep drilling tasks such as through-wall cable and pipe runs where a standard-length bit can't reach.
Choosing bit diameter and length
Diameter should match the fixing, anchor, wall plug or conduit you're installing exactly, since an undersized hole won't take the fixing and an oversized hole reduces holding strength. Length needs enough spare beyond the required drilling depth to let dust and debris clear the hole as you drill, otherwise the bit can bind or overheat. Standard 160-260mm lengths cover the vast majority of everyday fixing and cable clip installation, while 450mm-1000mm bits are reserved for deep masonry drilling, through-wall penetrations, and running services between rooms or floors.
SDS Plus vs SDS Max: which system do I need?
SDS Plus is the standard fitting for rotary hammer drills and combi drills used in everyday fixing, cable and pipe installation, and general masonry drilling up to around 25-30mm diameter. SDS Max, a separate and larger system, is reserved for heavier breakers and larger diameter core drilling where SDS Plus bits and drills don't have the torque or shank strength required. If your drill has an SDS Plus chuck, only SDS Plus bits will fit; check your specific drill and chuck type before ordering.
Standards and compliance
SDS Plus drill bits sold here are manufactured to work with the SDS Plus shank standard common across all major rotary hammer and combi drill brands, ensuring compatibility regardless of which drill manufacturer you use, provided the drill itself accepts SDS Plus bits.
