Chain hoist accessories can make a significant difference to how a rigging system is organised, protected and managed during use. From keeping power and control cables under control to storing excess load chain and protecting hoist motors from the elements, the right accessories can help support a cleaner and more practical setup.
At MTN SHOP, we offer a comprehensive range of chain hoist accessories such as chain sliders, chain hoist bags and weather covers, designed designed around the demands of entertainment and professional rigging applications.
In this blog, we’ll look at what each accessory is designed to do and where it fits within a chain hoist setup.
The MTN Chain Slider
"The most efficient cable management system"
Cable management is an important part of entertainment rigging, particularly when electric chain hoists are being used for technical show moves. Keeping hoist cables organised can help reduce tangling, snagging and unnecessary strain on equipment while maintaining a cleaner rigging setup.
The ergonomically designed MTN Chain Slider helps manage the load chain on most brands of electric chain hoists. Unlike fixed-size sliders, it uses an interchangeable insert system that allows the same slider body to accommodate several different chain sizes.
The slider can be used with the body alone or with one of three colour-coded inserts:
- Body: 35.05mm
- Yellow Insert: 7.94mm
- Blue Insert: 6.35mm
- Red Insert: 3.99mm
The inserts can be changed if the chain size or hoist setup changes, making the slider adaptable across different rigging configurations.
"Our focus when designing MTN gear is to provide our customers with the high-quality products that lasts. We strive for adaptable functionality without the premium cost for optimum accessibility."
- Marty Wesstrom, Mountain Productions’ Senior Vice President of Global Rigging Sales
How to Use MTN Chain Sliders
The MTN Chain Slider is designed to be installed without specialist tools. Place the hoist chain through the slider using the insert suited to the chain size, then attach the slider to the corresponding hoist cable.
As a general setup, sliders can be positioned approximately 1.2 – 1.5m apart, although spacing will depend on the application. Attachment methods can include zip ties, nylon strapping with a dog clip, quick links or suitable carabiners.
As the hoist operates, the sliders are able to rotate and stack with the chain, helping the associated cables coil and travel with the hoist rather than hanging independently.
The MTN Chain Slider is available as a body only, as a complete kit with all three inserts, or with individual replacement inserts where only a specific size is required.
MTN Chain Hoist Bags
MTN Chain Hoist Bags provide a practical way to collect and manage excess load chain during hoist operation. Manufactured from heavy-duty vinyl mesh, the bags use reinforced construction to support regular rigging use and allow chain to feed in and out of the bag during lifting.
The range includes different sizes and attachment configurations, including the MTN Round Chain Hoist Bag and MTN Double Hook Chain Hoist Bag, allowing the bag to be matched to the hoist, chain size and required lift.

MTN Round Chain Hoist Bag
The Round Chain Hoist Bag features a circular opening for easy chain filtering. Its heavy-duty vinyl mesh construction is reinforced with nylon strapping to help support the weight of the stored chain.
Key Features
- Heavy-duty vinyl mesh construction
- Reinforced nylon strapping
- Available in multiple sizes for different chain capacities
Determining the correct bag size to meet your needs depends on both the chain size and required lift.
V1/Small Frame Hoists use 1/4" chain, while V2/Large Frame hoists use 5/16" chain:
| Max Lift | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Bag Size | Item # | 6.4mm Chain | 8mm Chain |
| 33cm | MPRB13S | 12m | 6m |
| 41cm | MPRB16S | 18m | 9m |
| 51cm | MPRB20S | 30m | 21m |

MTN Double Hook Chain Hoist Bag
The MTN Double Hook Chain Bag uses two 7/16in CM steel snap hooks that connect to the corresponding MPDH bracket installed on the hoist body. It can be used in motor-up or motor-down configurations and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Key Features
- Constructed of heavy-duty vinyl mesh
- Dual sewn edging helps extend chain bag lifespan
- Steel frame opening
- Nylon strapping to prevent chain blowouts
- Two 7/16in CM steel snap hooks
- Suitable for motor-up and motor-down configurations
To choose the correct bag size, consider both the hoist frame size, load chain size and maximum lift required. V1 / Small Frame hoists use 1/4in chain, V2 / Large Frame hoists use 5/16in chain, while RRS models use 10mm chain. Use the capacity chart below to match your hoist and chain size to the appropriate bag.
| Max Chain Capacity | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Size | Item # | 6.4mm Chain | 8mm Chain | 10mm Chain |
| 33cm | MPDH13S | 12m | 6m | 3m |
| 41cm | MPDH16S | 18m | 9m | 6m |
| 51cm | MPDH20S | 30.5m | 21m | 16.8m |
| 64cm | MPDH25S | 40m | 30.5m | 21m |

Chain Hoist Weather Cover
The MTN Chain Hoist Weather Cover helps shield chain hoist motors from rain and other outdoor conditions during temporary, seasonal or permanent installations. Manufactured in MTN’s softgoods facility in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the cover is made from heavy-duty solid vinyl for regular use in entertainment and rigging environments.
Perfect for seasonal and permanent installations, the cover fits over the top of the hoist motor and secures with a Velcro closure, creating a protective barrier around the motor housing when equipment is exposed outdoors. It provides a simple way to add weather protection without interfering with the hoist setup.
