Masonry Bits
Discover our range of masonry bits and masonry drill bits from Faithfull, Irwin, DEWALT, Metabo and BlueSpot Tools, covering standard round-shank bits, impact multi-material drill bits and drill bit sets from 3mm up to 20mm diameter.
Masonry bits are built with a round shank for use in a standard drill, combi drill or cordless drill with a keyless or standard chuck, distinct from SDS Plus and SDS Max bits which need a dedicated SDS chuck. A tungsten carbide tip cuts through brick, block, concrete and stone, making these bits the standard choice for general drilling into masonry with a normal drill rather than a rotary hammer.

Masonry Bits – Product list
What is a masonry bit?
A masonry bit uses a round shank compatible with any standard, keyless or combi drill chuck, unlike SDS Plus and SDS Max bits which require a dedicated SDS-fitting chuck. The tip is typically tungsten carbide, ground to cut through brick, block, concrete and natural stone through a combination of rotation and, where the drill supports it, hammer action. Masonry bits are the everyday choice for drilling wall plug holes, fixing points and general masonry work with a standard drill rather than a rotary hammer.
Faithfull standard masonry drill bits
Faithfull's Standard Masonry Drill Bit range is the most extensive in this collection, covering diameters from 4mm through 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm and up to 20mm, in multiple lengths from 75mm up to 400mm to suit different wall thicknesses and fixing depths.
DEWALT impact multi material drill bits
The DEWALT Impact Multi Material range, including the 5.0mm, 5.5mm, 6.0mm and 8.0mm, is engineered to work reliably across masonry, wood and metal with a single bit design, well suited to impact driver use where a standard masonry bit's shank isn't built to handle repeated impact loading from an impact driver's mechanism.
Irwin masonry and cordless multi-purpose drill bits
Irwin's Masonry Drill Bit range covers common sizes such as the 3.5 x 75mm and 5.5 x 95mm. The separate Cordless Multi-Purpose range, including the 6.5 x 200mm and 10.0 x 200mm, is built specifically for cordless drill and impact driver use across masonry and other common materials, giving trades a single bit type for mixed-material drilling.
Masonry drill bit sets
For general trade and DIY use, sets cover a spread of common diameters in one purchase. The Faithfull Standard Masonry Drill Set (8 Piece, 4-10mm) and 5 Piece (5-7mm), the Metabo 8 Piece Set (3-10mm), BlueSpot Tools 8 Piece Set (3-10mm) and Irwin's Cordless Multi-Purpose sets in 5 piece (4-10mm) and 7 piece (4-12mm) configurations all give a cost-effective spread of sizes for general drilling without needing to buy each diameter individually.
Choosing diameter and length
Match diameter exactly to the wall plug or fixing being installed, since an undersized hole won't take the plug and an oversized hole reduces holding strength. Length should clear your fixing depth with enough spare for dust to escape the hole; shorter bits from 75-150mm suit most everyday wall plug and fixing work, while longer 300-400mm bits are needed for deeper drilling or thicker masonry walls.
Masonry bits vs SDS Plus and SDS Max bits
Masonry bits use a round shank for standard, keyless or combi drill chucks and suit everyday fixing work with lighter drilling demands. SDS Plus and SDS Max bits use a dedicated locking shank designed to transfer hammer action directly from a rotary hammer drill, giving faster, more efficient drilling into harder or thicker masonry and concrete. If you're drilling occasional wall plug holes with a standard drill, masonry bits are the right choice; for heavier, repeated concrete drilling, see our SDS Plus bits or SDS Max bits ranges instead.
