Marshalltown – Product list

A trowel company since 1890

Jesse and Lester Williams started the company that became Marshalltown as a trowel maker in 1890, and it has since grown into one of the largest tool manufacturers in the industry. Marshalltown only uses high grade steel in its trowels, backed by continuous product development and ongoing investment in manufacturing and distribution.

Brick and plastering trowels

Brick trowels are forged from a single piece of steel, giving a combination of weight, balance, strength and flexibility that welded or stamped alternatives can't match. The plastering range covers finishing, cement and gauging trowels in wooden, stainless steel and DuraSoft handle options, alongside pointing, margin and bucket trowels for more specific tasks.

PermaShape and PermaFlex innovations

PermaShape finishing trowels come pre-worn from the factory, replicating the broken-in feel that plasterers traditionally achieved by hand over months of use. PermaFlex trowels add controlled flex to the blade for smoother finishing work, and both ranges pair with the DuraSoft handle, designed to reduce hand fatigue over a full day's use.

Beyond trowels: the full Marshalltown range

Marshalltown also makes tuck pointers, jointers, hawks, taping knives, edgers and a wide range of tiling tools, including tile cutters and nippers. The range extends to screeds, paddle mixers, spirit levels and drywall knives, covering most of the hand tool needs on a plastering, bricklaying or tiling job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Marshalltown brick trowels are forged from a single piece of steel rather than welded from separate parts, which gives a stronger, more balanced tool. The majority of the range is still manufactured in the USA, and features like PermaShape pre-worn blades and DuraSoft handles are specific to Marshalltown's own product development.
A PermaShape trowel comes pre-worn from the factory, replicating the broken-in feel that plasterers traditionally achieved only after months of regular use, so the trowel performs like a well-used tool from the first day.
A finishing trowel is used for the final smoothing pass on plaster, giving a fine, even surface, while a cement trowel is built for heavier concrete work and general float finishing. Blade shape and flexibility differ between the two to suit each task.
Yes, Marshalltown branded brick and plastering trowels, along with the majority of the wider tool range, are still manufactured in the USA.
DuraSoft is Marshalltown's handle design intended to reduce hand fatigue during extended use, fitted across much of the trowel, knife and tool range as an alternative to standard wooden handles.
