Bits
Drill bits, screwdriver bits, hole saws and every other cutting tip that fits into a drill or driver chuck. This is the full Bits collection at MTN Shop UK, sitting under the wider Bits, Blades & Accessories category, and it covers the tooling that gets the actual work done once you have a drill in your hand.
You will find HSS drill bits for metal, wood drill bits and auger bits for joinery, SDS Plus and SDS Max bits for masonry and concrete, tile and granite drill bits with tungsten carbide tips, hole saws in every diameter from small pilot cuts through to letterbox and downlight sizes, core drill bits for structural work, step drills for sheet metal, screwdriver bits in Phillips, Pozidriv, Torx and hex, nut drivers, countersinks, router bits and the accessories that go with all of it (bit holders, extensions, magnetic sleeves).
The brands we sell here are the ones UK trade users specify by name: Irwin (over 620 references, the British heritage drilling and jointing specialist), Faithfull (over 615 references, the UK trade reference for value and range), DEWALT (nearly 400 across the Extreme, Impact Ready and FlexTorq ranges), Dormer (the British precision drilling brand for HSS and TiN-coated bits), Bahco (the Swedish premium), LENOX (the US specialist for hole saws), plus Makita, ForgeFix, CorePlus, BOA, Hall and BlueSpot.

Drill bits and screwdriver bits at MTN Shop UK
Getting the right bit for the job matters more than most people give it credit for. A blunt or wrong-material drill bit will overheat, wander off the mark, tear the workpiece and take three times as long to cut, while the right bit at the right speed goes through cleanly and lasts across dozens of holes. The Bits collection at MTN Shop UK is built around that reality: proper trade-grade tooling from the brands UK joiners, electricians, plumbers, gas fitters, kitchen fitters, decorators, mechanical engineers and metalworkers actually specify by name.
HSS drill bits for metal
High-speed steel is the standard drill bit specification for metal work, and this is the largest range in the collection with over 800 references. HSS drill bits work through mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass and copper, in sizes from 1mm pilot bits up to 25mm+ for structural work. For most metal drilling the standard HSS range from Dormer, Irwin and Faithfull is the right specification. For stainless steel and harder alloys, cobalt or TiN-coated HSS bits stay sharp longer and cut cooler, which matters when the bit is running slower and generating more heat.
SDS Plus and SDS Max bits for masonry and concrete
SDS drill bits are the specification for rotary hammer and SDS drill work in brick, block, concrete, reinforced concrete, stone and render. The Bits collection includes over 500 SDS references across Plus and Max shank types, with tungsten carbide tips ground to the modern four-cutter geometry that clears dust and grips the aggregate without the bit skidding or the tip snapping under load. For deep holes into structural concrete, the LENOX and DEWALT Extreme ranges are the trade specification. For general first-fix work into blockwork, the Faithfull and Irwin ranges give strong value across the common diameters (6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 16mm and 20mm) that cover most fixing and anchor work.
Wood drill bits, auger bits and spade bits
Wood drilling covers a wider range of jobs than most people think: pilot holes for screws, clearance holes for cable and pipe runs, joinery work into softwood and hardwood, and long-hole boring through joists for services. The wood drill bit range includes brad point bits (for clean-edged holes in softwood and hardwood with no wandering), auger bits (for long deep holes through joists and structural timber), Forstner bits (for flat-bottomed holes in furniture-grade work) and spade bits (for fast rough boring where finish does not matter). The Irwin range covers the full spectrum, and the Bahco auger range is the specification for structural joinery.
Tile and granite drill bits
Drilling into tile, porcelain, granite and natural stone needs the tungsten carbide diamond-tipped bit range, not standard masonry bits. Standard masonry bits will crack porcelain and skate off polished granite. The tile and granite range in the Bits collection is engineered for this: sharp cutting geometry to score and cut ceramic surfaces without the spider-crack failures that come from percussive drilling. Used by kitchen fitters, bathroom installers and tilers across the UK for tap holes, waste outlets, shower rail fixings and worktop cut-outs.
Hole saws
Over 400 hole saw references cover pretty much every diameter you will need on site, from small 16mm pilots through the standard 20mm/25mm/32mm plumbing sizes, up to letterbox, downlight (65mm and 75mm are the two most-specified), extraction fan and toilet waste diameters. LENOX is the US specialist reference for hole saws with the Speed Slot bi-metal range holding up better than most competitor brands on repeat use. DEWALT, Irwin and Faithfull round out the range at every diameter and price point.
Screwdriver bits and impact-rated bits
Over 320 screwdriver bit references cover Phillips, Pozidriv, Torx, hex, square drive and Robertson patterns, in standard length, long reach and impact-rated specifications. Modern impact drivers put enormous torque through the bit, and standard screwdriver bits shatter under repeated impact loading. The DEWALT FlexTorq range, the Irwin Impact PRO range and the Bahco impact range are engineered for this: harder tip, more flexible shank, longer service life on impact drivers. If you are running a Milwaukee or DEWALT impact driver at all regularly, impact-rated bits are worth the price difference over standard screwdriver bits.
Step drills, countersinks, core drills and nut drivers
The collection also covers the specialist bits: step drills for sheet metal and thin material (one bit, multiple diameters), countersinks for finishing screw holes flush in timber and metal, core drill bits for larger diameter structural drilling, nut drivers for hex-headed fasteners and self-drilling roofing screws, and router bits for joinery and edge work.
Choosing the right bit
- Metal (mild steel, aluminium, brass): standard HSS from Dormer, Irwin or Faithfull.
- Stainless steel and hard alloys: cobalt or TiN-coated HSS, run slower with cutting fluid.
- Brick, block and concrete: SDS Plus with tungsten carbide tip. For heavy reinforced concrete, DEWALT Extreme or LENOX.
- Softwood and hardwood joinery: Irwin brad point for clean holes, Bahco auger for deep bores.
- Structural timber (joists, floor plates): Bahco or Irwin auger, 24mm and up for cable and pipe runs.
- Porcelain tile and granite: tungsten carbide diamond-tipped tile bits, never standard masonry.
- Downlights, extraction fans, letterboxes: LENOX or DEWALT hole saws in the specified diameter.
- Sheet metal and thin material: step drills give multiple diameters from one bit.
- Impact drivers (Milwaukee, DEWALT, Makita): impact-rated screwdriver bits, not standard.
